I have been thinking about the Merrick family quite a lot since I heard that their daughter Daisy lost her battle against cancer… and in the twinkling of an eye met Jesus, gained heaven and the Crown of Life. The whole matter has again given my life pause. I wonder “why?” I know the answer, but I wonder nonetheless. The following are my subsequent “musings” ~
The building of a Christ-like character is a lifes’ work. It cannot be done in an hour, or in a week; it takes an entire lifetime – be it long or short (as in Daisy Merrick’s case).
It is an everyday work. God sees, He knows. He uses everything in our lives; He wastes nothing.
Indeed, He is “working all things together for the good of them that love Him; they that are the called according to His purpose” (Rom. 8:28). Do you ever wonder about His purpose for your life? The next verse reveals it: “for whom He did foreknow, them also He foreordained to be conformed to the image of His Son” (Rom. 8:29).
With that thought in my mind, I say to you who are both family & friend: Yield (better, ‘surrender’) yourself to God’s work in your life. By faith, see His hand… molding & shaping your entire person; your character – inside & out. Don’t fret, don’t fidget. Just trust, holding tight to the promise of Philippians 1:6 ~ “being confident of this, that He who began a good work in you will be faithful to carry it on to completion, until the day of Christ Jesus.”
