Our Stewardship of God’s Bounty

If we would stand right in the presence of God, we must remember that what God has given us in this world, He has given us, as stewards, to care for; and not to hold those resources for ourselves, but to dispense with them where they will do the most good. We are to reckon these things as ever belonging to God and never to ourselves. They are God’s and under His wish and will we are to dispense them from time to time according to His word and as His children – in parting or holding – subject to His will. This is the great question in the life of every believer. Are we subject to His will in this regard? Or do we claim the right to exercise ourselves according to our own will and to use our gifts and possessions as if only our own? It is a very sweet thing if we stand in the presence of God and have the consciousness that the material possessions we have are ours to hold, not hoard; and that His will in their regard is supreme.” (Henry Foster)

What do you have that God hasn’t given you? And if everything you have is from God, why boast as though you secured it yourself?” (1Corinthans 4:7, nlt)

But whoso hath this world’s goods, and sees another have need, yet closeth up his bowels of compassion against him, how dwelleth the love of God in him?  My little children, let us not love in word, neither in tongue; but in deed and in truth. For hereby we know that we are of the truth, and shall assure our hearts before Him.” (1John 3:17-19, asv)

So then, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all those in need, and especially to those who are of the household of faith.” (Galatians 6:10, esv)

Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over, shall men pour into your lap. For with the same measure that you give, withal it shall be measured to you again.” (Jesus; Luke 6:38)
