God be thanked…

“Every gift from above is an invitation to take our thoughts and sayings above. God’s gifts are intended to lift up our faces to His, to awaken us to love Him. Every bad and imperfect thing drags us down to darkness; every good and perfect gift woos us into the light. Consider the birds of the air and the flowers of the field, they are His appeal to trust Him. Yea, from the stately order of the heavens, to the beauty of nature, to the beauty of holiness, to the perfect love of which they are but dear fragments – may God be thanked for His supreme appeal to us…to remember Him in all things. And God be thanked for His good and perfect gift, that gift unspeakable: His life, His love, His very self in Jesus Christ.”  (Maltbie Babcock, “Thoughts for Everyday Living”)

“Consider the birds of the air: they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? And…consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin, yet I tell you, even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is alive and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will He not much more clothe you, O you of little faith?” (Matthew 6:26, 28-30)
